I met Cindy Jensen of BoldMovesChina in Beijing earlier this year. Cindy has been living in Beijing for 11 years with her family and running a consulting company based in China.
Cindy and I discussed the challenges and needs of our girls in finding work after graduation. After she met a group of them in August, she decided to offer a workshop teaching essential skills such as communication,
professionalism and networking. I know it would help the students greatly in today’s competitive job market.
The workshop was held on the 12th of November. Cindy and three other senior presenters led the workshop, 29 girls attended. Some of them had to travel by train for more than 20 hours, but it was all worth it.
By the end of the day even through we were all exhausted, no one wanted to leave including the presenters! They were all impressed by the girls and told me the EGRC girls were the most enthusiastic attendees they
have ever had.

“Among poor families scarce resources are focussed on boys. Girls are often shunted into the background through no fault of their own. Or they are kept home to work land or mind younger siblings"
“The education of girls is one of the top UN Millenium goals."
“The Educating Girls of Rural China project is a marvellous demonstration of what it means to be Canadian at the dawn of the 21st century."
This project is an example of person-to-person diplomacy and donors can be absolutely certain their contributions go to the education of girls.?It reinforces the Canadian reputation for kindness and generosity. It is a testament to what can be achieved when people of goodwill work together."

"Despite all the time and effort it must take to assist all the women in your project, I can understand your enthusiasm. How rare to have such a direct influence on so many lives!
Your project embodies very Canadian values -- the education and equality of women - and projects these values from here out into the world."
